With the way the weather has been lately it was surprising that it wasn’t raining on Sunday 4 March for the Ardmore Showdown. A new one from 4 & Rotary Promotions. The sky was blue and the sun was definitely there to stay for the day!
The Smits Group team arrived nice and early to the Admore Airport to set up our latest array of products from Meguiar’s, Peak and Rislone – to name a few. The weather combined with the wider appeal of a car and aero event resulted in massive crowds turning up to play witness to all manner of vehicles – on show, racing, drifting and being able to get up close to some of the coolest planes and helicopters our country has on offer.
The entertainment included an array of cars on display from various car clubs, classic cars, hot rods, imports, dragsters, drift cars, planes and helicopters. There were drift battles, stunt drivers and acrobatics from the war birds in the sky.
The Ardmore Showdown – Wings vs. Wheels demonstrated the best drifting and drag racing on the track, and acrobatic wings in the sky. The 4 & Rotary helicopter vs. Carl Ruiterman’s, Subaru WRX in a Gymkhana battle. Along with a New Zealand first – a drag car vs. V jet plane drag race! The jet plane took the win (travelling at around 700km per hour) but none the less the race made for fantastic entertainment. Charlie Bates impressed the crowd in the Rislone ‘rail’ dragster, with it’s turbo charged 20b rotary power plant. The air show was impressive, with planes swooping, looping and diving through the air.
The event was not only for the big kids, there was a dedicated area for the young ones, with bouncy castles, candy floss, jeep rides and more!
The Ardmore Showdown was a success, a day to suit everyone – young and old, and we simply can’t wait for the next one.
